Ambient air monitoring is a long- term, systematic assessment of pollutant levels by measuring the different types of certain pollutants in the surrounding outdoor air and their quantities.
KCM Environmental assists clients to meet their legal requirements in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, No.39 of 2004 to monitor ambient air. Our ambient air quality monitoring services include; Ammonia (NH3); Hydrogen Fluoride (HF); Hydrogen Chloride (HCl); Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2); Sulphur Dioxide (SO2); Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S); BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene, Xylene); Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC); and Ozone (O3)The purpose of ambient air monitoring is to assess the extent of the pollution; providing the public with air pollution data; Implementing air quality goals or standards; and support research and providing data for the use of air quality models. This test method is beneficial as it helps assess impacts of the poor air quality on public health; helps determine whether the air in the area being monitored meets the air quality standards and the pollution levels of that area; helps to check whether the air quality control programmes in place are efficient, and compares the short term and long-term diseases that are as a result of air pollution.
